Have you ever felt like you’re watching your own life through a window? Like the grief is happening to someone else and you’re just… numb?
That unreal feeling is one of grief’s strangest tricks. Your heart knows your child is gone, but your body hasn’t caught up. You go through the motions — the grocery store, the laundry, the small talk at church — while some part of you is standing off to the side whispering, “This can’t be real.”
Sweet mom, that numbness doesn’t mean you’re grieving wrong. It’s your heart’s way of protecting you from feeling everything all at once. God made you that way on purpose.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1, ESV). A very present help — not a distant one. Even when He feels unreal too, He’s closer than your next breath.
In this episode, I talk about the fog of early grief, why numbness is normal, and how to trust God with the feelings you can’t even feel yet.
